World's Most Corrupt Billionaire

Amancio Ortega is the founder of fashion company Inditex, the parent company of most famously Zara, as well as Pull and Bear, Bershka, and many others. He has a net worth of about $73 BILLION and became rich off the exploitation of poverty stricken countries and the environment.
Ortega is a pioneer of the fast fashion industry, an industry which promotes rampant consumerism and greed by producing a gargantuan amount of very poor quality clothing that is sold for a very cheap price and only worn a few times before being thrown out.
In 2011 and 2013, slave like conditions were discovered in Latin American factories where Zara clothing was produced, with workers- including 14 year old children - spending up to 19 hours in the factory earning pennies.
In 2014 (and you may have heard of this), a major factory in Bangladesh collapsed and killed over a thousand of the workers who were trapped inside. The factory supplied clothing to many fast fashion brands, including Zara. It collapsed because the foundation of the building had become incredibly damaged, and despite the worries and fears of the employees, the building was not repaired because the owners did not want to spend the money required to bring the building up to code. This factory collapse is one of the biggest disasters of the decade in my opinion, because it finally gave some attention to the devastating conditions that workers in third world countries who produce fast fashion clothing for us work in.
As recently as 2016, Syrian refugees were found working in factoring making Zara clothing while being exposed to extremely toxic chemicals without protection. And Zara keeps denying responsibility and does not seem to give a single shit about the lives of these humans, because they're totally minted, and that's really all that matters!
The bottom line: Amancio Ortega is a criminal. He is making billions by selling you shitty clothing made by Syrian refugees and 14 year old children in Bangladesh who are lucky if they can earn $20 a month. He has become a billionaire while killing the environment and probably hundreds of people in the process. He's an awful, corrupt guy who doesn't receive nearly enough recognition for his awfulness. Please shop mindfully at stores that produce ethical fashion, and only shop for what you need.
